Leaving your home in pursuit of the unknown is harrowing, and painful. But it is also empowering. Melancholy strings build with synths and percussion, driving ever higher until the protagonist crosses the precipice – a first flight into the unknown. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Spaces Between
The unknown is strange and bewildering, but also lonely, and we are reminded of the things we left behind, and the long road that lies ahead of us. Slow, ambient strings and synths provide a starry background for some brooding solo cello. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Encounter
The protagonist is truly tested for the first time. The darkness enters, and the threat is real. Driving, menacing synth and strings slowly build towards a dramatic, epic drop, ending unresolved. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Endurance
When we face the hardest of trials, we find out who we really are. The protagonist fights to overcome, and realises the strength within them. Epic, driving action, ending on a heroic rendition of the main theme. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Fall
Sometimes, in spite of our best efforts, we fail. What matters is what we do next. A dark brass chord signals a dark change, the uncertainty. Solo cello fights to find some sense, but fails again. Soft, emotional strings signal the certainty and power that the protagonist requires to rise again. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Rise
A bold, empowering rendition of the Monomyth theme, as the protagonist realises their potential, and journeys towards their final goal. Driving uplifting epic orchestra! Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Fury
The final trial, as we all fight to achieve, to finish the journey. Epic, driving action, finishing on a bold final statement of Monomyth main theme. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Monomyth – The Restoration
The protagonist returns home, restoring the calm and familiarity, but tempered with the certainty of greater knowledge beyond the wall. Simple effected piano with a restrained rendition of the main theme. Part of the ‘Monomyth’ album project.
Petrichor
Ambient, wafting synth pads and distorted leads set the scene for some humble, soft piano — giving way to a luxurious swell of warm synth tones at the height of the track. Just like the smell of soil after summer rain.
Nightfall
A dark, atmospheric hybrid track melding solo strings and piano with strong rhythmic electronic synths and pads, building up to a dramatic back-end.
Icarus (2019 Remaster)
A remaster of another popular old library track. Sweeping, uplifting orchestra, with synth and driving percussion.
Light in Dark Places (2019 Remaster)
A remaster of a popular old library track. Uplifting orchestra with some bold choir in the back half – short but sweet.
There is a Place
Melancholy ambient piano and strings – dreaming of a cosy, safe place to ride out the last of this Swedish winter :).
She Moved Mountains
Very simple ambient piano, focusing on the space between notes. Subtle strings and synths fill out the space. This was a musical response to the passing of someone I knew.
Ashes of a Fallen Year (2019 Remaster)
A 2019 remaster of an old track! ‘Ashes’ is a simple, uplifting orchestral track with acoustic drums and strings. The new version has more emphasis on solo strings (violin and cello).
Skyscraper Samba
Elevator music, pure and simple. Three versions are provided: Full Mix, EQ’d (for the elevator speaker experience), and EQ’d + Less Drums (heard above), which has a simpler, more comedic vibe.
Freedom
An uplifting orchestral track, imbued with ideas of exploration, and the pioneering spirit.
Ascension
Sweeping orchestra, with a touch of sadness, a pinch of melancholy, but a smidgeon of hope for balance – a modern tone poem for the trials of overcoming adversity. A simple, distorted synth helps drive the orchestra forward.
Childhood
Computations in a Snowstorm
Ambient electronics, strings and solo cello, melding into an amorphous tonal explorational soundscape. I’ve also included a ‘No Cello’ mix, which transforms the track into atmospheric underscore.
